Bream Head Coast Walks Lodge

Our block is 80 acres on the north-eastern slopes of the Mount Manaia range. Your accommodation is a purpose built lodge, in its own private bush setting with sea views. Treat it like you own home – you have complete privacy. Relax in all weathers in our under-cover outdoor living area. Indulge yourself with a candle-lit soak in our outdoor bush bath. The lodge suits one to twelve walkers in comfort. There is no minumum number to run the walk.

The lodge, which was completed in October 2008, is very private and nestled into a manuka covered hillside with extensive rural and sea views.  Relax in the comfortable open living space.  Dine indoors or alfresco in the covered barbecue area.  Rest up after your day’s walk in one of the three bedrooms or bunkroom (bottom sheets, pillows and pillowslips are provided).  Enjoy a shower or bath with unlimited hot water.  There are two bathrooms inside and one outside, the outside bathroom has an open air bath with lovely bush views.

The lodge is wheelchair friendly, with a ramped entrance and an accessible bathroom.

The bedrooms are set up like this:

  • First bedroom: queen sized bed.
  • Second bedroom: twin single beds.
  • Third bedroom: (Family Room) one double bed and two single beds.
  • Bunk Room: three sets of single bunks. Six people total.

(We know that adds up to fourteen people, but we think twelve is a sensible maximum for the lodge.)

WHEN THE BOOKING IS FOR ONE PARTY ONLY WE LEAVE IT TO YOU TO DECIDE WHO WILL BE IN WHICH ROOM.   HOWEVER, WHERE THERE IS MORE THAN ONE PARTY HERE AT THE SAME TIME, WE WILL ALLOCATE ROOMS WHEN YOU ARRIVE AND BE ASSURED THAT WE NEVER HAVE DIFFERENT GROUPS SHARING THE SAME BEDROOM OR BUNK ROOM.

Our aim is to provide you with fresh, local, seasonal food.

Your first evening meal will be in the lodge when you arrive, requiring only a minimum of input from you – perhaps heating something in the oven or cooking something on the barbecue.

Our menu will vary with the seasons, the market, our, and our friends’ vegetable gardens, and what our fishermen can catch

Lunch

  • Home baking, such as muffins, peanut brownies or shortbread …

Pre Dinner Snack

  • Tasting board including local olives, bread and cheese, home-made pate and hummus

Dinner

  • Chicken and leek gratin
  • Roast Kaipara kumara with lemon and garlic
  • Fresh garden salad with home-made parsley vinaigrette

Dessert

  • Upside down pear and ginger cake, served with cream, ice cream or yoghurt
